Free Comic Book Day
Saturday May 3rd is Free Comic Book Day in participating comics shops across the country (and around the world). In Morgantown, you can visit Gary’s Comics and More on High Street to celebrate. This means exactly what it sounds like it might: You get the chance to pick up a sampling of comics for free! Publishers produce special “FCBD” comics, which they sell to retailers for less than regular comics. (The retailers still need to purchase these, and pay for shipping, of course.) The merchants then give these comics away to free for people who come to visit their shop on the day of the event. Different stores may have different rules about how many free books you can pick up. The publishers get to introduce their titles to new people, and comics shops get to have a nationwide event to attract new readers to their stores.
The idea of “Free Comic Book Day” is to introduce new people to the world of comics, with no cost to them! This doesn’t mean you can’t pick up free comics if you’re already a regular fan (of course you can!) but to be true to the spirit of the event, why not ask a non-comic reading friend to come along? It’s a perfect day to share your interest and introduce others to the joys of comics!
Happy reading!
