Mountaineers Rally in Phoenix
Heading to Phoenix to support the Mountaineers in the Sweet 16? Then you’ll want to hit up the free pep rally hosted by the WVU Alumni Association, Mountaineer Athletic Club, and WVU Foundation University Fund. The rally will be today (Thursday, March 29th) from 2-3 p.m on the Outdoor Terrace of the Phoenix Airport Marriott, featuring appearances by the Mountaineer cheerleaders, the WVU Pep Band, and the Mountaineer mascot. Snacks will be provided while they last, and there will be a cash bar. Open to the public!
And let’s cheer the Mountaineers as they go up against the Xavier Musketeers! Game time is 7:10pm ET (so if you’re in Phoenix, that will be 4:10pm!) The NCAA Tournament is being covered by CBS.
(Thanks, Karen!)

Sorry — rooting for the Tarheels here. Good luck though!

Oh it’s okay, you’re not rooting against us yet.
Thanks for the luck!
I might as well have been reading something in Japanese… that’s about as well as I understood what you were saying.
I am so out of the sports loop these days.
Hehe, I understand how you feel! The NCAA Tournament starts with 64 teams playing each other in brackets of two. The winners of those games then get matched up to play each other (32 teams) and it keeps going like that (16, 8, etc) until you get a winner. WVU won its first two games, and made it to the bracket where there are 16 teams playing. It’s always fun around here when WVU does well, people get very excited.
Right now WVU is behind at the half — but in their last game they were behind at the half and still won. So here’s hoping!
It’s now in overtime! WVU came back from 18 behind, were ahead by two in the second half, then behind by two, then tied it to go into overtime — and now in overtime they’re ahead by 4 (more than they’ve been ahead the whole game). Xavier could still come back, but how exciting!
And Xavier won by 4.
It was an insane overtime, lots of back and forth, but Xavier wrapped it up in the end.
Our guys made a great effort! It’s too bad we couldn’t make more of those foul shots.
Here’ s the last three minutes of the ESPN play by play, reverse to the end of the game. At the bottom you’ll see WVU ahead by 4, and then the slow reversal of that:
